According to Springfield Police Department Spokesman Ryan Walsh, officers responded to a Shot Spotter activation in Hampden County on Main Street in Springfield at around 11:30 a.m.Wednesday, July 28.
During an investigation, 16 shell casings were located, however, no property damage was found, Walsh said.
Detectives in the Firearms Investigation Unit were able to locate Angel Santiago on Webster Street around 5 p.m., inside a parked car with two other individuals.
Detectives arrested Santiago and detained the two individuals pending the investigation.
Detectives immediately located a firearm with a laser attachment on the car’s floorboard. This firearm was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
In addition to the guns and ammunition, detectives also located 30 bags of heroin on Santiago, approximately 8 grams of cocaine, and various pills, Walsh said.
One of the individuals detained, Israel Perez, had a loaded large-capacity firearm in a bag he was wearing. Detectives also located 50 bags of heroin in the bag, he added.
Inside the car detectives located a third loaded firearm and various pills that were in a bag in reach of the third individual.
Santiago and Perez were both identified as shooters in the morning incident on Main Street, Walsh said.
Springfield Police have arrested Santiago four different times on firearms charges. He was convicted of firearm and drug charges in February 2020 and in 2017 on firearms charges.
Santiago of Springfield was charged with numerous gun and drug charges in addition to assault to murder.
Perez of Springfield, who was previously convicted of firearms charges in 2014 and 2017, was also charged with various drug and gun charges as well as an assault to murder.
25 year old Ricardo Olivera of Springfield was charged for driving without a license and various gun and drug charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
